This subject continues the students learning in Clinical Measurements in a Pathophysiological
based program. the student will continue to explore fundamental issues of respiratory,
sleep and neurological measurement, analysis and interpretation, quality assurance,
basic technical skills and manual preparation. This subject prepares the student to
work as a multidisciplinary Clinical Measurements scientist. Therefore, organ system
function and physiology and pathophysiology will be reviewed with a focus on the methods
required for the investigation of disorders and the clinical interpretation and reporting
of results. This subject fulfills part of the requirements for students wishing to
be employed as Clinical Measurements Scientists.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of basic methods of analysis,
interpretation and reporting in clinical measurements;
- Interpret and transmit a working knowledge of quality assurance with in the regulatory
framework of Clinical Measurements;
- Review organ system function as it relates to clinical measurements;
- Integrate theoretical and technical knowledge of clinical measurements and apply these
to the investigation of organ system function in health and disease;
- Demonstrate clinical and technical expertise in the interpretation of results of clinical
measurement investigations;
- Exercise judgement to interpret and comment on data collected during practical/clinical
sessions and the interpretation of clinical case studies;
- Demonstrate the Clinical and technical communication skills to design, evaluate, implement,
analyse, report and theorise about developments in Clinical Measurements;
- Research integrate and apply established theories to clinical problem solving in Clinical
Measurements.
Subject Assessment
- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (20%) - Individual
- Oral > Presentation 1 - (60%) - Individual
- Literature Review/Project Plan/Ethics/Proposal and Report - (20%) - Individual.
Special Assessment Requirements
Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more in both clinical and research presentations
and reports.
