BC5002 and BC5003, in combination, constitute the full year Masters research project in the Discipline of Molecular & Cell Biology. The subject is a combination of a major research project and assignments: · To extend the students understanding of molecular genetics, cell biology and/or bioinformatics by completing assignments; · To allow students to develop practical skills in molecular genetics, cell biology and/or bioinformatics by undertaking a major research project. These outcomes will contribute to your overall achievement of course learning outcomes

Learning Outcomes

  • prepare a dissertation of a high standard on the original research topic and compare and contrast the results obtained with those reported in the literature;
  • incisively review the scientific literature on a particular topic and devise a research program of a high standard to answer questions raised on that topic;
  • formulate prose for a scientific audience;
  • prepare a research project proposal;
  • conduct a research project in a professional manner;
  • present a research project to a scientific audience.

  • viva (oral defense) (10%)
  • assignments (10%)
  • evaluation of professional conduct (15%).
