Credit points: 3
Year: 2012
Student Contribution Band: Band 2
Administered by: School of Marine & Tropical Biology

Advanced study in a selected area of Agricultural Science, based on a supervised research project, which may have experimental, observational, literature-based, or other approaches. Depending on students' abilities and requirements, the project may be organised through field/industrial placement, attachment to an appropriate research program at JCU or in a collaborating organisation, entirely independent studies or as group activities. It will be flexible to meet different needs, but will provide a suite of generic skills for all participants.

  • practical experience in the logistics associated with empirical investigation, in experimental design, in the analysis and interpretation of data/information and in the preparation of scientific reports to present their results: that is, a capacity for original observations, question/hypothesis development and output/outcome generation;
  • practical experience in a research environment, working closely with and learning from experienced researchers;
  • understanding of scales of knowledge by investigating a selected topic in depth.

Graduate Qualities

  • The ability to deploy critically evaluated information to practical ends;
  • The ability to find and access information using appropriate media and technologies;
  • The ability to evaluate that information;
